The standard 4.0L V-6 engine has 210 horsepower and 254 lb.-ft of torque. The 2007 Mercury Mountaineer is also available with 4.6L 3-valve SOHC V-8 with high-flow ports, that provide more power and improved efficiency. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard with the V6, whereas the 6-speed unit comes with V8. Rear as well as all wheel drive is available with any of the the engines. Mercury Mountaineer meets strict Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) requirements. 2007 Mercury Mountaineer supports independent rear suspension, a stronger frame, revised front suspension and bigger brakes than previous models.
